July 6, 1989
Little Canada City Council
515 E. Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Re: Drainage Ditch /Catch Basin
TO MEMBERS OF THE LITTLE CANADA CITY COUNCIL:
We, as residents and taxpayers of the City of Little Canada
are concerned about the drainage ditch and catch basin
located between Thunder Bay Road and Ontario Road in Little
Canada.
This ditch is in our backyards. The grading and
construction of the ditch was done in 1986, the year in
which the houses on Thunder Bay Road were constructed. The
houses on Ontario Road were not built until 1988. This
resulted in partially graded, but unfinished lots on
Ontario, eroding into the drainage ditch and thus filling
both the ditch and the catch basin with topsoil. This
resulted in the total ineffectiveness of the drainage ditch
and catch basin. Resulting runoff is now, and has been,
collecting in various pools along the ditch and even with
the recent dry weather, have not dried out this year. There
is also an odor being transmitted which we believe is the
result of long - standing water.
We contacted the City of Little Canada who instructed us to
call Carley & Associates. They referred us to the City
Council.
We as homeowners understand we must share in the
responsibility of the loss of topsoil into the ditch but are
looking for assistance in bringing the ditch and catch basin
back to their original state. We feel that the damage was
done in the two -year period in which we had no control over
the situation. The homes in the area are all complete and
any corrections should now be permanent.
rpage i
