MENDOTA 'SPRING CLEANUP ' DAY <br />PLAN AND AGENDA <br />I. Purpose of Event <br />1. To instill a sense of pride and community within the <br />town by working together to clean up the trash, cans <br />and bottles in the neighborhood and to have our town <br />'Historic Mendota' be a nice place to live. <br />2. To clean up for the sake of the environment and to <br />stress the importance of recycling. <br />3. To have our town safe and clean for all of us- for the <br />adults, the children, and our pets. <br />II. Setup Day and Place: <br />1. May 20. 9am - 2pm. Kick -off event at Mendota Park <br />with coffee and donuts; hot dogs and Coke at Noon. <br />III. Promotion /Publicity: <br />1. Coordinate with mayor and city council. <br />2. Send out flyers to residents of Mendota and contact <br />local businesses for donations- money or products. <br />Contact local paper for publicity. <br />3. Encourage residents who are not able to collect trash <br />to volunteer in other ways, ie., serving the food. <br />IV. Things to Work: <br />1. Coordinate pickup of trash with local trash company; <br />getting bags or containers. <br />2. Determine the food amounts and buy the food. <br />3. Solicit for donations and come up with ideas for <br />gifts and prizes, ie., hats, t- shirts, gift <br />certificates. <br />V. Planning for the Following Year's Event: <br />1. The Annual Pride Day 'Spring Cleanup' planning should <br />begin at least two months prior to event, for ordering <br />special gifts, ie., hats or t- shirts, whatever. <br />2. For continuity, set up same day each year, the third <br />Saturday in April; one week prior to Arbor Day. <br />Page 5 <br />
