He has used his approach with successinavariety <br />of new large planned communities, older redevelopments and overall mm- <br />munityplans. He is a principal with Midwest Planniny & Design and serves <br />as Planning & Zoning Administrator for the City of Minnetonka Bench. <br />Bob lockyear has extensive hands-on experience in both writing and imple- <br />menting zoning and subdivision ordinances. He has worked for city, town, <br />county and state planning departments in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota <br />-most recently as Planning Director for Washington County. <br />Rich Mclaughlin, is an independent design consultant & adjunct facullyfor <br />College of Architecture and Landsmpe Architecture, University of Minnesota. <br />Building on eight years as a Minnesota Design Team member and co-leader <br />as well as his professional experience, he has led citizen workshops sharing <br />the principles and techniques for addressing the diallenges and opporlu- <br />nilies facing both Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota communities through <br />community-based planning and design. <br />F~Ct~fi~ Jr~~~r~ation <br />Adam Arvidson is a landscape architect with 70 years of experience <br />in site design, park and trail master planning and design, and rede- <br />velopment planning and design. He currently serves as Director of <br />Communications for the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society <br />of Landscape Architects (ASLA). <br />Matt Brokl, a partner at the law firm of Campbell Knutson, is the City <br />Attorney for the cities of 6urnsville, big Lake, Monticello & Hampton. <br />Jean Coleman, attorney and planner with CR Planning, Inc., has <br />worked with local governments for 19 years as a policy advocate and <br />zoning consultant-currently focusing on community-based plan- <br />ning and innovative implementation techniques. Areas of expertise <br />include using GIS-based natural resource data in comprehensive <br />planning, diverse tools for natural resource protection plus public <br />participation/conflict resolution techniques for developing polkies <br />and ordinances. <br />Phil Carlson has consulted on plm~ning issues for 25+yearswith firm <br />of Dahlgren, Shardlow &Uban, Inc. In addition lowriting zoning ordi- <br />nancesfor numerous communities, he wrote the design guidelines for <br />6urnsville's Heart of the Ciiy development, West St. Paul's Robert Street <br />corridor and Mankatos Urban Design Framework. <br />Dan Frank is responsible for coordinating the Initiative Foundation's <br />Healthy Communities Partnership program and assisting with com- <br />munitytrainingand grant review. His background includes 4 years as <br />a director of mmmunily education and 20 years in nonprofit manage- <br />ment. He has been a Healthy Communities Partnership team leader <br />and was selected as the Pequoi lakes Citizen of the Year in 2000. <br />Mark Grimes is Director of Planniny & Development for Golden Valley <br />Since 1984, he`s worked with City Council and staff to guide inevitable <br />change in a manner that would enhance the community as a place to <br />live and work. Highlights indudc successful redevelopment of several <br />areas in the city providing new/updated commercial, industrial & <br />residential opportunities. <br />Desyl Peterson has been Minnetonka City Attorney since 1984. She has <br />been President of the Minnesota City Attorneys Association, the Hennepin <br />County Loml Government Law Committee and a member of the League of <br />Minnesota Cities Board of Directors. <br />Brian Ross, a founder and principal of CR Planning, Inc, has major respon- <br />sibililyfor econanicdevelopment analysis, sustainable development/smart <br />growth planning, energy planning and environmental analysis and is <br />currently managing the comprehensive plan update (or the City of Duluth. <br />Brian was primary author of From Policy to Realily.~ Model Ordinances for <br />sustainable Deve%pment and contributor to Under Conslrudion: loo/s and <br />Techniques forLom/P/arming, both prepared for Minnesota Planning. <br />Barb Senness has been Planning Manager for the City of Plymouth for the <br />past 12 years. Prior to that, she spent 1G years in various positions at the <br />Metropolitan Council, including local planniny assistance and comprehensive <br />planniny. She has also worked with Improve 494, the City o(Minneapolis, <br />the University of Minnesota Planning Office andasaprivateconsuliant. She <br />currently serves as Sensible Land Use Coalition President. <br />John Shardlow is President and Director of Planning (or Dahlyren, Shardlow <br />& Uban, Inc, consulting planners and landscape architects. In 25+ years <br />of professional practice, he has assisted nearly 100 cities and counties in <br />preparing and implemenfinytheir<omprehensiveplans, zoninyordinances, <br />subdivision regulations. <br />John Slack is a registered Landscape Architect with Dahlgren, Shardlow <br />and Uban. He has over 10 years experience working with both public and <br />privatesecfordienisvndiverseandcomplexprojeds. The focus of his work <br />is urban redevelopment, streetscape, public open space and site planning. <br />He is currently President of the Minnesota Chapter of ASLA. <br />C. John Uban is CEO of Dahlyren, Shardlow and Uban, Inc. He has 30+ <br />years experience in planniny and design projects in the Upper Midwest, mid <br />has been the lead planner for numerous residential subdivisions on behalf <br />of major developers and builders in the Twin Cities metro area. <br />
