The square foot cost for building construction falls in a range of $65 - $85 s.f., depending on the level of quality desired by the Council and Community. The lower range represents a building of concrete block or Industrial grade precast, mechanical systems that meet basic code requirements with exterior roof top heating, ventilating, and alr conditioning units.The higher range represents a brick exterior quality ventilation system and mechanical equipment housed inside Instead of outside. Site development costs are rough estimates at this time. Once the exact building placement is determined and soils testing has been completed, these costs can be refined. A total project budget should Include anticipated furniture and equipment costs, a minimum contingency of 10%, professional fees, financing costs, and land requisition. Enclosed also Is a list of fire stations recently completed In the metro area. Costs per square foot have been adjusted 3% per year to reflect current 1990 dollars. Most of the facilities on the list have brick exteriors; costs vary mainly due to site development, Interior finishes, mechanical systems, and bidding climate. We would recommend a budget for buliding construction in a range of $75 -$85 s.f. plus the site development costs.
