II CRING s 41SSO(IfTTS
Memo
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer
DATE: June 26, 2013
RE: Little Canada Road Improvements
Bid Results
Bids were opened for the above referenced project at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June
26, 2013 in accordance with the Advertisement for Bids. The project consists of:
• Improvement of the pedestrian ramps at the Interstate 35E on and off ramps to
meet ADA standards.
• Mill and Overlay of the curbed section of Little Canada Road from the Interstate
Bridge to approximately the east end of the existing concrete curb and gutter.
• Full depth reclamation of the remainder of the street to Edgerton Street, In this
section concrete curb and gutter will be added and the main traffic lanes will be
moved to the north to provide room for the construction of a concrete sidewalk
on the south side of the street. Storm sewer improvements will be added to
serve the new curb and gutter section.
• Right turn lanes will be added on Little Canada Road at McMenemy Street and
Edgerton Street. Right turn lanes will also be added on Edgerton Street.
• A parking lane will be constructed on the north side of Little Canada Road from
approximately the Union building entrance to the west entrance of the parking lot
adjacent to Global Volunteers.
Also included in the project was an alternate to construct a sidewalk on the north side of
Little Canada Road between the Church parking lot next to the Global Volunteers
building and the existing trail on the water works property that currently comes onto Little
Canada Road.
Two (2) bids were received from the following companies listed below from lowest to
highest total bid:
Corporation Base Bid Alternate Total Bid
FPI Paving Contractors $1,115,705.10 $38,408.00 $1,154,113.10
TA Schifsky & Sons $1,327,056.30 $43,866.45 $1,370,922.75
The estimated cost of the construction for the project was $1,033,000.00. Based on the
bids received, FPI Paving Contractors, Inc. is the low bidder, We are reviewing the bids
to determine if there were specific items that are significantly higher than anticipated, but
it is likely that prices in general are higher due to a lower overall number of bidders. FPI
Paving Contractors has done several project in the City over the years and past
experience with them reflects that they are a responsive and responsible bidder.
10062 Flanders Court NE — Blaine, MN 55449 — Ph: (763) 780 -0450 Fax (763) 780 -0452
Memo - 062613 -CC (Summary of Bid Results)
