MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />April 5, 1990 <br />EMC CORP. <br />Pedersen felt it would be difficult for the Planning <br />Commission to legislate landscaping. <br />Mr. Costa recommended approval of the subdivision of <br />one lot into two and variance for lot area since one of <br />the lots will be less than 15,000 square feet in size <br />for the property located at the southeast corner of Old <br />County Road C and County Road C as requested by the <br />North Suburban Company. <br />Motion seconded by Garske. <br />Motion carried 6 - 0. <br />Drabik again suggested that additional landscaping be <br />required. <br />The Commission discussed this suggestion and it was the <br />concensus of the Commission that the City Planner work <br />with the developer on the landscaping issue. <br />Mr. Arnie Esterbrooks, Gonyea Corporation, appeared <br />before the Commission reporting the interest of EMC <br />Corporation to develop a corporate headquarters site on <br />the 24 acres located near Highway 36 and 35E owned by <br />the Greiman family. Esterbrooks reported that as part <br />of this proposal the property needs to be rezoned to <br />PUD and EMC Corporation is looking for Tax Increment <br />Financing assistance. Esterbrooks reported that EMC <br />Corporation has been offered proposals by other cities <br />to locate their corporate offices in those cities, <br />however, EMC Corporation prefers the Little Canada <br />site. <br />Esterbrooks reported that the cost of the project would <br />run between $5 1/2 and $6 million. The project would <br />be a corporate headquarters in a campus -type setting <br />similar to St. Jude Medical. <br />Messrs. David Feinberg and Paul Winters, EMC <br />Corporation, appeared before the Commission with <br />Feinberg reporting that the company was began in 1954 <br />and is an educational publisher of text books, audio <br />visual aids and computer software. The firm is a light <br />manufacturing and warehousing company employing 170 <br />people with projections of 500 to 600 employees in the <br />next 10 years. Feinberg presented a tape to the <br />Commission which showed the EMC operation in more <br />detail. <br />Page 7 <br />
