Little Canada Road <br />Little Canada, MN 55117 <br />Phone: 779 -5582 <br />MINNESOTA 1990 <br />RE: Minnesota Department of Transportation Policy on Bituminous Pavement <br />Recycling <br />Dear Sir: <br />Upon the request of Mr. Frank Frattalone of Frattalone Excavating from your <br />community, the following information presents the Minnesota Department of <br />Transportation's policy on the use of salvaged bituminous pavement. <br />The Department strongly supports the use of this resource for recycling into <br />new asphalt pavement or into grading material for pavement base whenever <br />possible. <br />The Department has established a salvage task force to ensure that materials of <br />this type be re -used rather than placed into landfills providing the use of the <br />salvaged material results in a product meeting satisfactory construction <br />standards. <br />We are also studying the possibility of including products such as asphalt <br />roofing shingles, tires, sludge ash (waste treatment) and incinerator ash <br />(trash and garbage) as materials for inclusion into bituminous pavements. <br />Several demonstration projects have already been developed. <br />If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact me: <br />Sincerely, <br />r!— <br />Douglas J.
