• <br />«;IIIITT� <br />c.ccss.3y. 014 <br />'r. :'nRIIR1II naniirnui R]] 1 <br />i1C11i;IIn1HItnijjjuRi IIIRRIZIIIIIIRIIICIIInI11IIRI' <br />:RT- _- ra1111II IT IIIIIII 1 111111 111 '��. — _ }TITItt11111ITiRTiTRTRi1TTTTTIT <br />\ 4 V �� �I ` k� L... <br />�.miTlunnmuua. <br />Proclamation <br />WHEREAS: Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant attraction to early settlers because of <br />their usefulness and the beautiful environment they provided; and <br />WHEREAS: Trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our lives by <br />purifying air and water, helping conserve soil and energy, creating fobs through a <br />large forest products industry, serving as recreational settings, providing habitat for <br />wildlife of all kinds, and making our cities more liveable; and <br />WHEREAS: Human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as disease and <br />Insects, threaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the <br />future of urban and rural forests in our state, country, and world; and <br />WHEREAS: The year 1990 will be one of celebration with special activities showcasing all that Is <br />outstanding about Minnesota occurring statewide, including the celebration of the <br />twentieth anniversary of Earth Day, and the planting of one million trees by Minnesota <br />citizens, both young and old; and <br />WHEREAS: Each year on the last Friday In April - Arbor Day - the people of Minnesota pay special <br />attention to the wonderful treasure that our trees represent and dedicate themselves to <br />the continued health of our state's stock of trees; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Rudy Perptch, Governor of the State of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim April 27, <br />1990 to be <br />A R B O R D A Y <br />and the month of May 1990 to be <br />A R B O R M O N T E <br />In Minnesota. <br />Further, 1 urge all citizens to become more aware of the importance of trees to their well - being, to <br />participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green Minnesota In decades to come, and to <br />plant, nurture, protect, and wisely use Minnesota's great treasure of trees. <br />1TEiES19 <br />>���pILE DUNO <br />S E C R E T A R Y O F S T A T E <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my <br />hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of <br />Minnesota to be affixed at the State Capitol <br />this thirteenth day of December in the year <br />of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and <br />eighty -nine, and of the State the one hundred <br />thirty - first. <br />Page 1 <br />
