September 11, 1990 Dear Mr. Hanson, I would like to apply for the opening on the Little Canada Parks Commission. I have lived in Little Canada for almost two years. One of the reasons that Little Canada was an appealing community to move to was the strong community spirit that we felt was present. I think that the recreational opportunities that Little Canada has to offer contribute greatly to that spirit and community pride. Since we moved to Little Canada our boys have participated in the soccer, basketball, gymnastics, skating, and baseball programs offered by the city and supported by the Little Canada Recreation Association. My husband and I coached second grade soccer last year and he is coaching one of the third grade soccer teams this year. I think that the development plans for Pioneer Park are exciting and have been impressed with all of the emphasis that the city has been placing on park development in recent years (Spooner Park, the trails, etc). An area of park development that I see as having potential for enhancing the lives of a broad cross - section of the city's population is the providing of safe bicycling, walking, and running opportunities in and around Little Canada. I would like to work towards improving the safety and expanding the accessibility of what we have now. Also, I think that involvement or coordination with the planning for regional parks and /or trail systems will help us to maximize the recreational opportunities available to the residents of Little Canada. The park system is a vital part of any community. My interest in community planning and urban development dates back to my choice of an Urban Studies major in college.
