December 1, 1990
City of Little Canada
Little Canada, MN
To Whom It May Concern:
The purpose of this letter is to respectfully request consideration of
speed limit reduction in our neighborhood. I am writing as President
of our Gervais Shores Neighborhood Association and as representative
of all of the interested homeowners who live within our subdivision on
either Dianna Lane or Reidmond Avenue. Those in favor of a reduced
posted speed limit on Dianna Lane have signed the attached petition.
I have also included a full roster of all households on these two
streets.
Both Dianna Lane and Reidmond are cul -de -sacs with a common ingress
and egress at the intersection of Dianna Lane and County Rd B2.
Therefore, these streets are only intended to service the residents
thereon and their guests and, of course, necessary services. These
are not thru streets and offer no public access to Lake Gervais. At
the present time, the posted speed limit (identified by one sign on
Dianna Lane) is 30 miles per hour.
We believe this speed limit to be dangerous due to the configuration
of the street and the high number of youngsters that live and play
within our neighborhood. While we, as aware neighbors, generally
drive less than 25 mph through our neighborhood and each of us make an
effort to instruct and educate our new drivers to do the same, our
concern is with the number of visitors that drive these two streets
and particularly, Dianna Lane. Most are friends and guests, others
are people lost, seeking access to the lake and /or sightseers, but few
realize the danger in driving 30 mph through this neighborhood, with
the number of blind /sharp bends and number of children riding bikes
etc.
If you review the attached roster, you will find that there are 12
children 7 years of age or younger, 22 aged 8 through 15, and there
are approximately 14 "new drivers" aged 16 -19.
Page 9
