1991 City Council /Professional Staff Conference <br />Proposed Session Structure <br />SESSION 1 ... "INTRODUCTION - THE CHALLENGE BEFORE US" <br />A presentation that sets the tone for the conference. Objectives <br />will be discussed and prioritized. The session includes structured <br />group activities that have the participants sharing backgrounds, <br />thoughts and perspectives on a number of concerns pertaining <br />to leadership, past successes, and major issues facing the city. <br />SESSION 2 ... "WORKING TOGETHER AS A TEAM" <br />A light participation presentation and discussion experience <br />designed to increase harmony and productivity by identifying <br />one's own behavioral patterns, understanding the differences <br />in styles of behavior, identifying and minimizing potential conflict <br />areas, and maximizing the strengths of one's own individual style <br />of behavior. <br />SESSION 3 ... "IDENTIFYING MAJOR ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES FACING THE CITY" <br />Structured group participation that provides an update and fresh <br />perspective to those priority issues and opportunities that should <br />be addressed by the city. <br />SESSION 4 ... "GOALS & ACTION PLANS FOR THE CITY (LONG RANGE)" <br />Structured group participation that converts the major issues <br />facing the city into a realistic five -year goals program. This <br />exercise separates realistic goals and unrealistic goals and identifies <br />action plans that will lead to achievement of the goals. <br />SESSION 5 ... "GOALS & ACTION PLANS FOR THE CITY (ONE YEAR)" <br />Structured group participation that further converts the five -year <br />goals program and action plans into a realistic goals program for <br />one year. <br />SESSION 6 ... "RE- EXAMINING AND CLARIFYING ROLES" <br />Structured group participation that re- examines and clarifies the <br />roles of the Council members, the Mayor, and the professional staff. <br />SESSION 7 ... "WRAP UP" <br />A summary of the conference. <br />5 <br />
