Hanson
City Administrator
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Re: Proposed 1992 Legal Budget
Our File No. 6920
Dear Joel:
Telephone
(612) 222 -2541
Facsimile
(612) 223-5289
A review of our general fund billings from January through
September, 1991, indicates that legal services billed to the
general fund of the City for this period are $71,406.25. This
amount includes costs advanced of $1,851.75, and legal services
rendered relative to the items we categorized on our billing
statements as special projects, litigation, general prosecution,
and gross misdemeanor prosecution. Some of these items
categorized as special projects are charged to funds other than
the general fund, i.e. services rendered relative to the
expansion of City facilities, Fire Hall site, and similar
projects. These services are included in the above total, but I
assume are not charged against the general fund.
Similarly, legal fees relative to the improvement projects
are charged to the public improvement funds and are not included
in the above total. However, to the extent that legal services
relative to the general fund categories continue at the same
level throughout the remaining three months of 1991, a budget
adjustment may be necessary.
Our present Retainer Agreement provides for a monthly
retainer for civil work in the amount of $1,585.00. Our time
records indicate that more time is being spent on routine civil
work and also that our overhead has increased substantially
since last year. Therefore, I am proposing that the 1992 budget
include a monthly retainer for civil work in the amount of
$1,750.00.
2? vise to f 773x/
GI y&
Page 43
1-
