515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Roberta Anderson, Administrative Intern
DATE: November 26, 1991
RE: Recycling Bins
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
We would like approval to use Ramsey County Recycling Grant
funds to purchase 2,500 recycling bins for the residents of
Little Canada. In the past, we have offered black buckets
and red /white bins that held one item each. Currently, we
are all out of the red /white bins and are running low on
the black buckets. In addition, the new bins would enable
residents to consolidate all recyclables into one
container.
We have received three price quotes from Rehrig Pacific
Company, Buckhorn, and Shamrock Industries, Inc. ranging in
price from $4 to $8. I have attached these quotes for your
review. After much consideration by City staff, we have
come to the conclusion that the City should purchase the
bins from Shamrock Industries, Inc. They are red with
white printing and hold three brown bags with room for
newspaper on the side. Originally, the price was $5.40
each. Shamrock has reduced their price to $4.95 each,
which would make the total cost of 2,500 bins $12,375.
Some of the ideal features of these bins are:
* Good size - able to hold cans, glass, and
newspapers in one container.
* Five year warranty.
* Great design - curved lip that forms a handle.
* Made from 50% recycled materials.
Page 14
