LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
CITY OFFICES:
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
Telephone: (612) 484-2177 / Fax: 484-4538
JIM MORELAN, Director
451 EH Road
484-2547
JACK FITZGERALD, Asst. Director, Girls Activities
2380 Greenbrier Circle
483-9302
MEMORANDUM
TO: Parks and Recreation Evaluation Committee Members
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: October 29, 1991
RE: Parks and Recreation Director Position
I would like to caution the Committee on putting too much
emphasis on adding duties to the position of Parks and
Recreation Director for the purpose of funding and /or
justifying the position on a full -time basis.
While some added responsibility and workload is
appropriate, I can visualize the job being saddled with the
same problems that are apparent now if too many new duties
are attached to it.
Keep in mind that the present Director is putting in
approximately 30 hours per week now, and there are things
that are not getting done. Also, each of the Assistants
are working approximately 10 to 15 hours per week.
It is unfortunate that the funding is a problem, but let's
not try to solve it by creating others.
Given the present workload, I feel that the City should be
careful that a situation is not created where the full -time
director will need other full -time support staff in the
near future in order to carry out the jobs assigned to the
Department.
JM:kv
° page 40
