Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you may remember in the past, I have requested no parking on
several streets within the City limits. It is at this time when I
respectfully request that you strongly consider a no parking
ordinance between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on City
streets from November 1 through May 1. I have cited my reasons
before and I will do so again:
1. The amount of cars parked on the streets makes snow
removal next to impossible, as people prefer to leave
their cars out on the street while they shovel their
driveways.
2. With this last storm we had many streets we could not even
get down with a snowplow due to people being parked on
both sides. It is now twelve days later, and we are still
having problems getting the ice off these streets. There
are cars still parked making it next to impossible to get
a plow down.
3. We had a medical emergency call from Ramsey County to get
Ruth Street plowed. They explained to us the ambulance
was getting stuck. We responded as quickly as we could.
We were there within several minutes. We could not remove
the snow because there were so many cars that were parked
out in the street. We could not get the plows down
there. Our pickup truck had to be pushed by the home
owners, the ambulance had to be pushed out by the home
owners and the child who had the medical emergency had to
be carried over half a block by stretcher back to the
ambulance. I realize that this medical emergency was just
a serious asthma attack. However, it very well could have
been a heart attack, or it could have been a house on fire
and the Fire Department would not have been able to get
down the street because of the cars parked there.
Page 23
