/0 /9lqI <br />4322 <br />RECREATION SUPERINTENDENT <br />NATURE OF WORK <br />This is responsible administrative work of a specialized nature in <br />the direction of the city recreation program. <br />Work involves planning, organizing, staffing and supervising a <br />comprehensive recreation program for the population of the entire city. <br />Work involves a considerable amount of seasaonal recruitment and training <br />of personnel for executing the various programs; and also promotional <br />work in stimulating participation in recreational activities. Instructions <br />in the nature of city policy directives and available budgeting are received <br />from administrative superiors. The employee generally develops and <br />executes recreational programs withrcomplete technical independence, <br />subject to suggestion from superioos and an advisory board. Work is <br />reviewed by the board and superiors through analysis of operating records <br />and reports, through meetings and conferences, and through the evaluation <br />of reports from the public. <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK <br />(Any one position of this class may not include all duties listed, <br />nor do listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions <br />of this class.) <br />Plans in general terms, within budget and facility limitations and <br />with assistance of subordinates, the recreational and athletic programs <br />which the department can operate. <br />Supervises and assists in the recruitment and training of seasonal <br />employees used in the operation of pools, playgrounds, rinks and a <br />community center. <br />Reviews and controls operating records including activity, personnel, <br />and financial reports on the operation of various recreational facilities; <br />reviews and approves requisitions for materials and equipment. <br />Plans in detail major special events and programs offered by the <br />department. <br />Makes periodic field inspections of operations and facilities to <br />insure that adequate standards are being adhered to in the operation of <br />the programs. <br />Delivers lectures and talks before civic, private, and other organi- <br />zations regarding the activities of the department. <br />Establishes and maintains adequate operating records and prepares <br />reports on department activities. <br />Performs related work as required. <br />DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE <br />Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course <br />work in recreation or physical education, including courses in the organi- <br />zation and administration of public recreation; considerable experience <br />in organizing and directing recreational activities; or any equivalent <br />combination of education and experience which provides the following <br />knowledzes. abilities, and skills: <br />Page 14 <br />
