The possible expansion of the hours and <br />days of sale has already been the subject of Council debate on <br />previous occasions. Chapter 703.080 of the existing ordinance <br />and proposed Chapter 703.140 are identical and govern hours and <br />days of sale. Under State law, on -sale of intoxicating liquor <br />is permitted on Christmas Day. The existing and proposed <br />ordinance prohibits on -sale of intoxicating liquor on Christmas <br />Day. <br />In addition, under State law, off -sale of liquor is now <br />permitted on January 1 and July 4. Off -sale of liquor is also <br />permitted under State law until 10:00 p.m. on December 31, July <br />3, and on the day preceding Thanksgiving Day, unless those days <br />fall on a Sunday. Under the existing and proposed ordinance, <br />however, off -sale of liquor is prohibited on January 1 and July <br />4, and the hours of sale on December 31, July 3, and the day <br />preceding Thanksgiving Day are more limited. <br />Please submit the enclosed revised Ordinance and this <br />letter to the Council for their consideration.
