Hanson
In early January I sent specifications for a large cut
rotary mower to seven different companies. Along with the
specifications was a letter explaining that the bid opening
was February 25 at 11:00 a.m. At that date and time, we
had only three replies. The three companies that replied
were MTI Toro Distributing from Plymouth, McQueen Equipment
from St. Paul, and Polfus Implement at Park Nurseries in
Stillwater. North Star Turf submitted a bid, but it came
in after the deadline and was returned. The bids came in
as follows:
1. MTI Toro - $48,549. The option of roll over
protection was an additional $426. Toro met or
exceeded all specifications.
2. McQueen Equipment - $24,500. Roll over protection
was an additional $800. McQueen met or exceeded
all specifications.
3. Polfus Implement - $20,529. This John Deer
tractor automatically includes the roll over
protection. Polfus did not meet all of the
specifications and only exceeded in one or two
general areas.
I recommend that the City of Little Canada purchase the
Hustler mower from McQueen Equipment for $24,500.
DBH:kpv
Page 42
