Hanson <br />Pursuant to discussions I have had with members of the City <br />Council, I am hereby forwarding for your consideration the <br />following policy: <br />RECEIPT OF GIFTS AND OTHER GRATUITIES <br />It is imperative that all employees not only maintain <br />the highest possible standards of ethical conduct in <br />their transactions of public business, but that such <br />standards are clearly defined. <br />Part 1. Solicitation. Employees shall not directly or <br />indirectly solicit any personal gift and /or service. <br />Part 2. Unacceptable gifts and gratuities. Gifts of <br />any size are unacceptable under circumstances in which <br />it could be reasonably expected to influence him or her <br />in the performance of his or her official duties, or is <br />intended as a reward for any official action on his or <br />her part. <br />Part 3. Acceptable gifts and gratuities. The <br />following are examples of gifts and gratuities which <br />may be acceptable: <br />(a) Awards for meritorious civic service <br />contributions; <br />(b) Unsolicited items that are donated to and <br />shared by the work group; <br />Page 21 <br />
