PETER STREET
ST PAUL, NIINNESOTA 55102
DRAFT REPORT
TO: Ramsey County Government Studies
Commission Staff Committee
John Wodele
January 2, 1992
Consolidation of Gross Misdemeanor Prosecutions
FROM:
DATE:
RE:
TELEPHONE 16121 298 -8421
FAX 298 -5316
& 292 -7827
Attached you will find a breakdown of gross
cases in Ramsey County. As you review this
you should keep in mind the following:
- The number of gross misdemeanors in the
individual cities was not readily available.
The cities are now in the process of counting
their gross misdemeanor cases by physically
going through their files.
misdemeanor
information,
- These statistics from the cities reflect only
gross misdemeanors charged and prosecuted.
However, Jane McPeak points out that cities
review very few (less than 1 %) of these cases.
Most are charged by police or are charged by
citation.
- The number of gross misdemeanor cases
reviewed /charged by the County Attorney is one
hundred and thirty -one (131). These are gross
misdemeanor cases that are specifically directed
to the County Attorney for prosecution (i.e.
gambling, election laws, malicious punishment of
a child, etc.).
Page 29
