As you are aware, our City
funding was eliminated in 1992. We are trying to make this a self supporting event by
conducting several fund raising efforts and by eliminating costly activities such as the carnival,
the free corn on the cob, and the fireworks and reducing the event to only two days. In addition,
to attract families to our event, we are constructing several children's game and activity booths.
While we will be able to use these games for future Canadian Days celebrations, the initial
investment is substantial.
Even with these cutbacks, cleanup and sanitation, including dumpsters and portable
toilets, remains a large part of our budget in both dollars and work hours. Last year, these items
totaled approximately $2,897.00. We are requesting that the City provide financial assistance to
Canadian Days by contributing $2,000.00 for these costly but essential items.
The Committee has been working very hard to provide the community with a fun family
event, with a sense, of tradition that hopefully will continue to foster civic wide. We sincerely
appreciate your consideration in this matter.
Very truly yours,
CANADIAN DAYS COMMITTER
Kathy Lieder Carl Nelson
President Treasurer
cc: Joel Hanson
Page 4
HONORING THE WORCns LONGEST UNDEFENDED RQRDER
