MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Dave Harris, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: July 2, 1992
RE: Parking in the Industrial Park
I will have pictures of several of the parking problems in
the industrial park available for Wednesday's meeting. One
issue that cannot be addressed at this time is the amount
of extra parking needed for the bus drivers. Due to school
being out, the buses are not operating. Therefore, the
parking situation is not as bad as it normally is during
the school year.
Right now employees of different companies are parking over
the curb on the boulevard area thereby leaving the street
wide enough for vehicles to pass. However, in some areas
the employees are parking on both sides of the street and
then the street is no longer wide enough for two vehicles
to pass. Some of the businesses are parking their
equipment on the street and loading equipment on the street
which reduces the usage for vehicle traffic. There are
many companies whose driveways go all the way to the street
for the entire width of their property and they do not have
a defined access. Those companies' employees are also
parking half in the boulevard area and half way out into
the street.
With the parking situation the way it is in the industrial
park, it makes maintenance and snow removal on the streets
and boulevard areas next to impossible. I would like to
recommend that at the very minimum there be no parking
posted on one side of the street. However, I feel that it
would be best if there was no parking on both sides of the
street or on boulevard areas. Also, the driveways should
become more defined for access to and from the businesses.
DBH:kpv
Page 30
