MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 1, 2006
Davis felt the concerns presented were all valid and the city should take them into account.
Boss agreed stating that the concerns should be addressed before voting on this issue. Steinert
was in agreement as well.
Sanders stated that since Nadeau Wildlife Area is a neighborhood park, the city should lean
heavily on the comments from the neighbors. He recommended that the Commission change
their direction on this matter to address the neighborhood concerns.
Davis asked who is responsible for restoring wetland. Mans felt that the Watershed District
would be the organization to contact. Davis stated that as liaison to the Watershed, she would
pass this discussion on to them.
Wenzel stated that he would volunteer to be the liaison for the neighborhood. Mans indicated
that would be noted.
Mans thanked everyone for attending the meeting to voice their opinions. Sanders encouraged
residents to pass on additional comments for improvements to this park to the Commission since
the Comprehensive Park Plan is currently being revised.
Wenzel stated that there are old tree stumps on the property that need removal. He asked if the
city would ever get involved in this matter. He also indicated that there are a few trees adjacent
to his property that are dead and must be removed. He was unsure if the trees were on his
property or the city's property. Mans stated that city staff would address these concerns.
XCEL Mans commented that the Director has met with representatives of Xcel Energy regarding
TREE their proposal to remove several trees located within their easement under the power lines
REMOVAL along Westwinds Park. The Director was successful in negotiating a five-year delay on the
removal of several trees thereby giving the city additional time to address this issue before it
happens. Mans commended the Director for his work on this matter. A letter explaining the
results of this meeting has already been mailed to area residents.
MASTER Sanders stated that the Commission has already discussed all of the park areas at previous
PLAN meetings. The next area to discuss involves trails within the city. Sanders stated that he
REVIEW does not have an update on the Maplewood trail connection, but this project is ready to begin as
soon as he hears from Maplewood.
OTHER Mans made the following announcements:
BUSINESS
There is currently one opening on the Parks & Recreation Commission and he encouraged
the public Co apply. Mans also stated that Gray has indicated that he may not be able to
continue serving as a member of the Commission due to other commiUnents.
