`CJ4G 24274 4tnai G
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
June 19, 1992
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Administrative Assistant
RE: Sylvan Street Cul -De -Sac
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Bill Blesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Property owners adjacent to the Sylvan Street cul -de -sac have
expressed an interest in the vacation of the Sylvan Street
right -of -way lying between the end of the cul -de -sac and Demont
Avenue. These property owners have expressed concern that this area
has become a dumping ground, and, if vacated, would become part of
their yards and would be maintained.
The Public Works Superintendent has reviewed this request. There is
sanitary and storm sewer as well as watermain within the road
right -of -way. These utilities are not isolated to any one portion of
the right -of -way, but spread throughout. Therefore, the City would
have to retain a utility easement the entire width that currently
exists for road right -of -way should the City choose to vacate that
right -of -way.
At its meeting last night, the Park Commission looked at this area to
determine whether or not a walkway easement should be retained if the
road right -of -way is vacated. Although the grade of the area is
steep, the Park Commission felt that to protect future City
interests, a walkway easement should be retained. The Park Commission
asked that they be given an opportunity to look at the area to
determine the best location and width for a walkway easement.
Page 32
