MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
OCTOBER 8, 1992
referred to the petition submitted by Rosewood Drive
residents opposing the variance. Melchoir reported
that the residents would like to see the lot built on
because it has become a dumping ground, and there are
open sewers on that property. However, the property
owners do not want to see a house placed 16 feet from
the street. Melchoir expressed concern that no one
cares what happens in the west end of the City, and
reported that the City has a very poor reputation.
Melchoir reported that the property owners are opposed
to the variance for safety reasons, and believe that
visibility around the corner will be obstructed.
Pedersen suggested that the house would not be 16 feet
from the curb, but rather 16 feet from the road
right -of -way.
Melchoir felt that a different style of home could be
built on the lot so that a variance would not be
necessary.
Drabik agreed and felt that the driveway access for the
house should be on the portion of Rosewood Drive
running north and south, as far to the southwest
portion of the lot as possible. Drabik felt that the
house proposed was just too big for the lot.
Pedersen asked the square footage of the house being
proposed.
Burnham reported that it was 1,250 square feet in size.
Pedersen pointed out that a 1,000 square foot home
could be built.
Melchoir again stated that the property owners in the
area do not want to live with this size variance,
however, the neighborhood does want to see this lot
developed.
DeLonais pointed out that the lot is not buildable the
way it is today, so some type of allowance will have to
be made. DeLonais pointed out that it is because of
the way the area was platted that resulted in the width
of this lot.
Burnham did not feel there was any type of home that
could be built on this lot and still meet all Code
requirements.
Garske felt that the neighbors would not like to see a
very narrow, trailer -like appearing house on the lot.
Page 10
Page 12
