Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Joel:
Last March you were invited, along with other community members, to participate in the
identification of a set of core community values. The process involved an open forum of
approximately 45 people who first identified 186 values and ultimately narrowed the list to 10
common value areas. A task force of community members developed the value areas into the
enclosed list of seven values.
These seven values have been adopted by the District 623 School Board and presented to all staff
in September. We are now at a point where all cities and local agencies, churches and local
organizations are being asked to become part of the implementation process.
Enclosed is a proclamation adopting the seven values and proclaiming November 8 through
November 14, as Values Week. By adopting the values, a strong message will be sent to our
communities. This message will demonstrate that we are committed to the future of our youth by
promoting, modeling and reinforcing these values in all areas of their lives.
An implementation committee, including representatives from several cities, has been meeting to
develop a kick -off event. This event is scheduled for November 14, 1992 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. and will celebrate the values in a variety of ways including; Climb Theater, PACER Puppets,
Rocking Hollywoods, storytelling, demonstrations by students, and many other events by
community groups. The Community Fest a Celebration of Community Values is designed to bring
focus to the values, offer a time to practice the values by showing respect for others and, provide a
sense of community through a sharing of our talents and skills. An adoption of the values before
the November 14, 1992 celebration would provide the committee with an opportunity to highlight
the cities in the events of the day.
In planning for the adoption by your city, a member of the implementation committee could
provide background information to you or your council. Please contact me or Sally Warring,
Director of Community Education if you have questions or wish to have someone provide
additional information.
Sincerely,
aci,try_
Carol J.
