515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
,(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: Dave Harris, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: October 8, 1992
RE: Structural /Coating Inspection of Water Tower
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
all Biesener
Rick Collova
Jim LaValle
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you know, we have recently come to an agreement with
Rainbow, Inc., the company that painted the water tower.
The agreement stated that they would honor the warranty
inspection from the work performed in the tower three years
ago. AEC, who were the inspectors, have submitted a
proposal for $2,000 to perform this inspection and will
supply us with two copies of the inspection report. The
report will include color photographs of the conditions, an
engineering analysis and recommendations for any work
required. This cost is for a one -day inspection. Each
additional day would cost $850 per day. This inspection
should be performed in the immediate future so that it can
be done properly before there is any ice in the tower.
Rainbow, Inc. agreed that if there are any defects in the
work, they would repair all defects as warranted. There is
one other contractor who does the same type of engineering
and inspection. However, they are on the east coast and
after mobilization fees, etc. are paid, the cost would be
approximately double of what AEC is proposing.
I recommend that we hire AEC to perform the warranty
inspection on the water tower at the earliest possible time
for all parties. If you have further questions regarding
this matter, please feel free to contact me.
DBH:kpv
Page 42
