Director, Girls Activities MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor & City Council FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Direct] DATE: November 12, 1992 RE: Values Awareness Celebration Some time ago, I received a request from the Community Values Festival Committee regarding the funding of the entertainment for this Saturday's celebration (see attached). I discussed it briefly with Joel at that time and we agreed that some additional information was needed concerning the breakdown of the various dollar amounts that were being requested from the seven different Parks and Recreation Departments involved. The needed monies were for the band that was being hired for the conclusion of the festival. The Committee felt a popular band was necessary for the overall day's success and the "Rockin' Hollywoods" were decided upon at a somewhat discounted cost of $2,000. I never was able to get a better explanation of the proposed requests, but since that time, several of the cities have decided not to be an active part in the festival and consequently will not be making a donation towards the cost of the band. In view of this, Bob Biersheid and the Roseville Parks and Recreation Department will be taking responsibility of the $2,000 payment to the band. By the time you meet to act on this request, the event will be behind us. However, in view of the importance of this endeavor to our community, I would like to see Little Canada's Parks and Recreation Department make the expenditure of the original $300 that was requested. It is obvious at this time that my Department will have a surplus in its 1992 operating budget that could cover this.
