Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Attached is a listing of the items that have been
identified for potential funding with proceeds from the 10%
contribution on charitable gambling proceeds. The listing
is not in any prioritized order at this time. While I have
my definite impressions as to the rankings of a number of
these items, I feel it would be inappropriate for me to
single - handedly make this determination. Therefore, I
would request that the Mayor appoint a committee consisting
of a Council representative, Public Works Superintendent,
Fire Chief, the Chair of the Parks and Recreation
Commission or the Parks and Recreation Director, and
myself. This group could then have further discussions and
develop a recommended priority listing for approval by the
City Council.
The ranking process would also determine if further
justification is necessary for any of these expenditures.
In addition, it should be noted that should an item be
planned for purchase, proper purchasing procedures and
approval by the City Council would still be necessary. It
may also be possible that one of our charitable
organizations would wish to purchase one of these items on
behalf of their organization for donation to the City. In
that case, the ranking would not be a criteria for a
charitable contribution from one of the organizations.
Unaudited figures indicated approximately $62,000 in the
10% fund as of December 31, 1992. However, commitments
have been made for some of this money such as the purchase
of the loader, a future monument purchase for the fire
station due to past donations, re -leaf program funds, and
fire department vaccinations. Included in the $62,000 was
approximately $35,000- 40,000 of contributions actually
Page 46
