c‘ do gGGGGB CJC/IZGGGGCG
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Hanson & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: March 5, 1993
RE: Viking Drive Water Main Improvement Hearing
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Under separate cover, you were provided a copy of the
feasibility report for the Viking Drive water main
extension (Improvement No. 92 -13). The cost for the eight
lots if the water main is not looped totalled $11,375 per
lot. If the water main is looped, the cost would increase
to $17,050 per lot.
Based on these cost estimates, the Council may want to
consider if this new water main should be subsidized by the
City for the eight properties along Viking Drive. The
rationale for subsidizing these lots could relate to the
fact that there is only single frontage to assess for this
improvement and the improvement has benefit to the
community at large. It is safe to assume that the
residents will make this request based on the conversations
I have had with some of them. Therefore, the Council must
determine if this water main is a benefit to the City or if
some other reason exists by which a subsidy should be
provided. Without a subsidy, it would appear doubtful this
improvement would proceed.
It should also be noted that we have included the larger
parcels off County Road B2 which may have benefit from this
improvement should the water main be looped. The Engineer
will report on the necessity of looping the water main
based on fire flow requirements. He will have this
information available for Wednesday's meeting.
JRH:kpv
Page 1
