Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Pursuant to Council direction, I discussed with Mr. Roger
Johnson, Regional Wildlife Manager for the Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources, the issues associated with
control of the deer herd as it relates to the Frattalone
property. The key points of this discussion were as
follows:
* Bow hunting would coincide with the State archery
season which runs from September 15 through
December 31.
* Should the City choose to revise its ordinance, it
was suggested that the City have an application
form whereby permission from the property owner is
obtained by the person wishing to hunt in the
defined area. Upon receipt of that material, the
Council could consider granting a permit for that
area to the properly licensed hunter(s).
* Typically, taking of deer by bow and arrow is only
allowed during the archery season. Special hunts
outside of the season need to be set up well in
advance. In approved situations, the season may
be extended to January 15.
* Special hunts are more readily obtainable for
sharp shooting situations rather than bow and
arrow. In these cases, all deer taken are turned
over to the DNR.
Page 9
