December 8, 1993
To: Little Canada City Council
This memo is in regards to the issue and phone conversation with
Bev Scalze. Both Milan and I feel that Fratalone should leave the
deer along. If he wants to continue to farm that land and not have
to worry about the deer or other animals eating his crop then
perhaps he should invest in putting up a fence. The cost of a
fence would pay for itself in the long run because I'm sure he
plans to farm that land for a few years anyway and he could leave
the deer along. How would he feel if whoever does the killing for
him happened to miss even with a bow and arrow and hit a child or
some other animal. The deer have just as much right to live as he
does to farm. If he wants to get rid of the deer then maybe he
should think about catching them and moving them to a different
location. For that matter, he's so concerned about his right to
farm and have a good crop, well how about the right we have to
enjoy the deer or the matter of the neighbors that have to put up
with him tracking mud and dirt all over our streets all summer
long. Well some of us don't exactly appreciate having a filthy
street because of his tracking back and forth either. If this were
the city; such as St. Paul where the deer would be more of a hazard
then it would probably be necessary and understandable to get rid
of them but this isn't the city, this is a suburb and the deer have
just as much right to be here and it's nice to be able to see
something like the deer and the fox. The deer aren't hurting
anything other than a farm crop that there are other alternative to
the problem (put up a fence) and I've not heard anyone else
complain about the deer - so let them alone and put up a fence.
Sincerely,
Milan and Deb Moravetz
476 Allen Ave.
Page 5
