MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538 Joel R. Hanson
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: November 5, 1993
RE: Vacant Parks and Recreation Position
Attached is a letter of resignation from Diane Husak,
effective December 1, 1993. It is my recommendation that
we accept Diane's resignation from Little Canada Parks and
Recreation Department with regret.
Jim Morelan, Jack Fitzgerald, and I have met to discuss the
options for filling this vacancy. Based on our discussion,
we developed three options. They are as follows:
* Eliminate the position and have Jack and Jim
assume the duties.
Hire a full -time person to take over that position
with expanded duties.
* Hire another person to fill Diane's position under
the same guidelines as previously existed.
We feel the first option is not feasible given current work
load and program needs. Our concern with the second option
is the fact that costs would increase dramatically without
a direct offset in program revenues. This would entail
significant budget adjustments to fully fund this
position. (I estimate an additional $17,000 minimum.)
Therefore, it appears the third option is the one that
makes the most sense given the status of the program
today. Before we will proceed with this option, we would
want to revise the job description to ensure that it
properly encompasses all relevant duties, evaluate the
potential for inclusion of programming duties, and look at
other relationships within the department to ensure that
the organization is as efficient as possible. We will
propose using the existing pay scale which would have the
starting salary of $500 per month. In the hiring process,
we will want to ensure that any candidates understand their
responsibilities with relationship to the compensation
schedule.
s,,4.,0 Page 34
