RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A GRANT APPLICATION <br />TO THE BOARD OF GOVERNMENT INNOVATION AND COOPERATION <br />FOR AN EAST METRO ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM <br />WHEREAS, in July 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was <br />signed into law with the goal of eliminating the exclusion of persons <br />with disabilities from buildings, participation in programs, receipt <br />of services and employment; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Little Canada conducted a self - evaluation of <br />City programs, services and facilities to assess its strengths and <br />weaknesses in providing opportunities to persons with handicaps; and <br />WHEREAS, during the self - evaluation, the City of Little Canada <br />discovered a need for recreation and leisure services for people with <br />disabilities particularly children eight to fifteen years of age; and <br />WHEREAS, the cities of Little Canada, Woodbury, Roseville, <br />Maplewood, Oakdale, North St. Paul, and their respective school <br />districts met to talk about a collaborative program for the entire <br />east metropolitan area; and <br />WHEREAS, sufficient funding and staff time for the collaborative <br />adaptive recreational program are not available in city and school <br />district budgets. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Little Canada in <br />conjunction with other cities in Ramsey and Washington Counties and <br />school districts does hereby support the collaborative efforts of the <br />Parks & Recreation Departments, Community Education and Special <br />Education programs to study, establish and provide programs for <br />persons with disabilities. <br />AND, BE IT ALSO RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of <br />Little Canada strongly supports the application submitted to the <br />Board of Government Innovation and Cooperation requesting funds to <br />make this important and timely study possible. <br />Attest: <br />Raymond G.
