515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.l ittle- canada.mn.us
MAYOR
13i11 Blesener
COUNCII.,
Rick Montour
John Keis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener & Members of City Council
FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
DATE: September 3, 2013
RE: Elimination of No Parking Signs on Twin Lake Road
Staff had a call asking for the no parking signs to be removed along Twin Lake Road.
Staff researched the issue and it appears the no parking signs were put back as part of the
reconstruction only because they were there when it was a 20 -foot roadway. Twin Lake
Road was reconstructed in 2004. Prior to reconstruction it was only 20 -feet wide so there
were no parking signs on one side of the road. After reconstruction the road is 28 -feet
wide. There was no documentation that showed that the no parking signs were serving a
specific purpose following reconstruction.
The City does not require no parking signs on 28 -foot streets as there should be enough
room for emergency vehicles to drive on the street even if cars are parked on both sides.
Based on casual observance during the day there does not appear to be very much on-
street parking on Twin Lake Road, and the winter overnight parking ordinance covers the
City's plowing operations. Therefore, staff recommends the City Council authorize the
removal of the no parking signs on Twin Lake Road.
A copy of this memo is being sent to residents of Twin Lake Road to make them aware of
the issue. They should contact me at 651- 766 -4049 or bill .direks@ci.little- canada.mn.us
if they have any comments or questions. The City Council meeting is Wednesday,
September 11, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.
