As was noted in Section 1.3, the vast majority of the residents remained opposed to the installation of any sidewalks in the neighborhood. Staff has since revised the design to include a sidewalk along the west side of Arkwright Street only, as this is the most central street connecting the neighborhood streets with County Road B. This final feasibility layout can be seen in Exhibit 6. The remainder of the project streets are proposed to utilize the design template "Local Street — Option 3." Staff feels this approach meets the intent of the Living Streets Policy while taking into account the feedback received from the area residents. Table C summarizes the existing and proposed streets widths throughout the neighborhood. Staff believes there are two main benefits to doing this: 1) Reduce cut - through traffic in the neighborhood. Motorists currently bypass the stop signs at Edgerton Street and County Road B by driving through the neighborhood on Sunrise Drive. 2) Provide better access management on Edgerton Street. The proximity of the Sunrise Drive and Edgerton Street intersection to County Road B creates a situation at which it can be difficult to access Edgerton Street during busy times of the day. Removing this access will improve traffic safety on Edgerton Street. Police and Fire were given opportunities to comment on the proposal to close Gurney Street. Police indicated no issues with the closure, noting that the closure would lessen the likelihood of more serious crashes due to vehicles turning onto Edgerton during times with high traffic volumes. Police and Fire felt the closure would not cause a significant delay in response time, as access would be maintained off of County Road B. 14 24
