NORTHWEST ASSOCIATED CONSULTANTS, INC.
4800 Olson Memorial Highway, Suite 202, Golden Valley, MN 55422
Telephone: 763.231 .2555 Facsimile: 763.231 .2561 planners@nacplanning.com
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Little Canada City Council
Little Canada Planning Commission
FROM: Stephen Grittman
DATE: October 4, 2013
RE: Little Canada — Parking and Storage on Residential Property
FILE NO: 758.10 — 12.06
Background and Analysis
The Planning Commission and City Council held a series of meetings earlier in the year
to consider changes to the storage and parking regulations that are applicable to
residential property. In the attached table and graphic, staff has identified a summary of
those changes, as well as made clarifying additions to many of the categories. The
intent of this material is to consider the substance of these ideas, leading to the
adoption of ordinance requirements (including a table and diagram such as the
attached).
The Council and Commission will hold a follow -up workshop on October 10th to consider
the ideas and regulations in the table and diagram, with the objective being to identify a
full range of changes that would form the basis for an ordinance amendment.
The table and diagram approach was devised with the hope that we would be able to
consolidate all of the elements of the code in a single format that could be examined
either by the type of equipment being kept, or the location a property owner may have to
keep something. It is anticipated that this format, once the appropriate standards are
settled upon, will be beneficial for both the City and for property owners.
pc: Kathy Glanzer
Steve Westerhaus
Lee Elfering
