PHALEN CHAIN OF LAKES WATERSHED PROJECT
RECEIVED MAY 1 & 1994
May 10, 1994
Joel Hansen
City Manager
City of Little Canada
515 East Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Dear Mr. Hansen:
During the past year, the City of Little Canada has been an active
participant in the Phalen Chain of Lakes Watershed Project. The
City has been represented on the Project's Steering Committee by
Bev Scalze and Bob Pederson of the City Council, and Dennis Carson
of the Little Canada Planning Commission.
The Steering Committee has completed its Comprehensive Natural
Resources Management Plan for the Watershed, and is eager to begin
work on implementing the projects and recommendations in the plan.
(A copy of the plan is enclosed, and final printed copies will be
provided to city departments as soon as they are available.) The
Steering Committee has determined that it will continue to meet to
direct implementation of the plan, to consider and develop
recommendations on natural resources issues in the watershed, and
to work with local governments to create an ongoing Natural
Resources Advisory Board for the watershed.
Therefore, the Steering Committee is requesting that the City of
Little Canada (as well as other cities in the watershed) appoint a
member and an alternate to represent the City on the Steering
Committee from June, 1994 through June, 1995. The Steering
Committee requests that the City appoint members from the City
Council and /or Planning Commission, as the Committee will be
considering issues and recommendations that address city plans and
policies and would benefit from direct involvment by local
government policy makers.
The City may discuss this issue with current Steering Committee
members and choose to reappoint one or both of them, or choose a
new member. Members will attend one Steering Committee meeting per
month, and may have some background materials to read before these
meetings. Background on natural resource conditions and issues in
the watershed, and on the plan and implementation activities will
be provided to new members.
Representation from Little Canada and other cities is particularly
Page 28
