About 3 years ago, I began looking for a Doctor that would support my belief:
that beyond the crippeling effects of SMA! there is a human being with one
life to live and one body to do it in! And, that body needs to be kept in:the
best possible condition!! This is when I started getting the preventative
interventions I wanted for Jeffrey. But, they weren't aggressive enough! I
was never told of Dr. Ward's work, I found out by accident! this fact is
frustrating at best.
It's my understanding the reason something like this could happen is, because
our medical field is divided. We have Medical Science & Research out in the
lead and Chiropractic Science & Research running a silent second. To me, neither
science is right or wrong, better or worse, their teammates! Not arch rivals and
hopefully someday they'll realize this.
Medical Science attacks SMA & other Chronic Disablities from a "Inside to Outside"
approach; what went wrong chemically? Chiropractic Science attacks these issues
from a "Outside to Inside" approach; focusing on the importance of the spine
and it's structure. Same goal, just different approaches and different standards
of documentation.
This division is what interfers with the availability of treatments. It dictates
what services are funded, which dictates which are recommended, which dictates
which are obtainable. This explains why I never heard about Dr. Ward's work,
because his field is not recognized by the other; due to what standards are
considered Documented Scientific Proof.
I'm not critical of the National MDA Association because; I had a very inspir-
ational conversation with Kathy Lesko. She explained to me the guidelines under
which MDA Research is structured. Basically their hands are tied, if a Doctor
is not accredited as a Research Center; it can't be funded by Grants. If it
doesn't get grant monies, it doesn't get listed as a client resource. This
doesn't mean a client doesn't solicit an un- accredited Doctor's services, it
just means they have to pay for it themselves!
So, I raise the money myself! Go get Jeffrey the treatments, collect the much
needed Scientific Documented Proof and share it with anyone who'll listen!
My first choice for raising the money was a fundraiser: Play for Hope, Hope to
Play, Benefit Softball Tournament. It was to take place at Pioneer Park in
Little Canada. An appropriate selection, considering Jeffrey played his only
ball T -Ball in Little Canada. I took it as far as I could, with the help of
Jim Moreland of Parks & Rec and the Little Canada City Council Members. But,
after expenses, it just didn't have the potential for profit.
My second choice for raising the money, is the one I'm sharing with you; direct
solicitation of donations. I realize were down to the wire for keeping our
scheduled appointment on August 15th through the 26th, but I'm still hoping!
I've enclosed an Itemized list of the expenses for this trip and a direct deposit
donation form for your convienence (see attached #2).
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please call me Monday
through Friday, 9:OOam to 6:OOpm at (218) 739 -3196.
Page 9
