Canabury Pond Condominium Association August 2, 1994
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT APPLICATION
ATTACHMENT
RELATED TO SPECIAL PURPOSE FENCE
FOR
CANABURY POND CONDOMINIUM ASSOCIATION
PURPOSE: During the late summer of 1993, the Canabury Pond
Condominium Association completed renovating the lawn area
on the north side of the building between the building and
the pond. The cost of erosion repairs from the water runoff
from the building and sodding this area totaled more than
$5,000. This area had been severely damaged from
overgrazing by the resident flock of Canada geese. Please
see attached photographs numbered #1 and #2 which depict
severity of the problem. In addition, the grass in the
subject area is shaded by the building for extended periods
of time, making regeneration of the lawn impossible with
continual grazing by the geese.
In order to address this problem, the Association has
installed a wire fence to provide a barrier to adult geese
and their goslings. The Association anticipates annual
removal of the fence before the ground freezes and
reinstallation in late April until a better method of
control is made available.
LOCATION: The wire fence extends from the building on the
east side of the north wing and from the north side of the
east wing to the pond. The fence proceeds to border the
pond along the embankment. Please see attached drawing.
The approximate location of the fence is shown by the red
line.
IMPACT ON SURROUNDING PROPERTY: The fence is virtually
invisible from adjacent properties. Please see photographs
numbered #3 and #4. Both photographs were taken from the
eastern boundary of the Canabury Pond property looking west.
The fence has caused the geese to concentrate their grazing
in the area near the eastern boundary of the property,
outside the fence.
CONSTRUCTION: The fence is constructed of a wire mesh with
a grid of 2 inches by 3 inches. The fence is 2 feet high
and is supported by 3/8 inch diameter rebar sections 5 feet
in length. The rebar sections are placed through the wire
mesh grid and driven approximately 3 feet into the ground.
The rebar sections are spaced at 6 to 12 foot intervals to
support the wire mesh along the contour of the ground. The
rebar stakes are to be fitted with 1/2 inch copper plumbing
Page 84
