FAIRVIEW CENTER
ID :6126312544 SEP 13'94 8 :31 No.001 P.02
Roseville Area Senior Program
1910 West County Road 13 • Roseville. MN 55113
Telephone: (612) 633.3997
Serving Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Maplewood, Roseville and Shoreview
September 13, 1994
Mr, Joel Hanson
City Administrator
Little Canada City Hall
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Joel,
I am writing to request the Little Canada City Council's continued support of the Blockworker
Outreach Program operated by North Suburban Senior Council(NSSC)/ Roseville Area Senior
Program. Specifically, NSSC is asking for support in the amount of $1,620.
The Blockworker Outreach Program was established in 1986 as a neighbor - helping- neighbor program
utilizing volunteers to visit older residents on their block at least once a month. In addition to acting as
a resource to the residents the volunteer also distributes free written information on community
resources, activities and services, The Blockworker model is to foster and promote a self - sufficient
neighborhood environment that enables older adults living in their own homes to maintain meaningful,
independent lifestyles.
In the past year Blockworker volunteers have visited about 592 residents throughout our service area.
In Little Canada 54 residents were visited by 4 volunteers. We are currently in the process of
expanding the Blockworker program into several neighborhoods of Little Canada.
The Little Canada City Council granted the North Suburban Senior Council $1,920 in 1994 for which
we are most grateful.
We anticipate the Blockworker Outreach Program budget to be $13,500 for 1994 -95. Each of the
communities within our service boundaries, School District 623, is being asked to fund a percentage of
this dollar amount based on the number of persons over age 60 in each city. According to the 1990
census there are 1,244 individuals over the age 60 in Little Canada, which is 12% of the number of
persons(10,000) over 60 in our total service area. NSSC is therefore requesting support from the
Little Canada City Council in the amount of $1,620 which represents 12% of $13,500.
Thank you for your continued support, If you have any questions please contact me at 633 -3997.
Sincerely,
)lmae as)
Lynnae 1.eBa ron
Executive Director
North Suburban Senior Council, Inc.
North Suburban Senior Council, Inc. and Roseville Area Schools, Community Education
Page 14
