rr'1E
urn Roseville Area Schools • District 623
0 Serving the Communities of Arden Hills, Falcon Heights. Lauderdale. Little Canada. Maplewood, Roseville. and Shoreview
District Center • 1251 County Rd B2 West • Roseville, MN 55113 -3299 • 612/635-1600
December 19, 1994
Mr. Joel Hanson
Little Canada City Hall
515 E Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Joel,
I am writing to comment on the proposed change to the Australian and Bluwood Streets East of
Lakeshore. I understand that there is a proposal under consideration to connect these two streets.
I write this letter in support of that proposal. The connection of those streets would allow the
district the option of serving vulnerable students more easily and at less risk to the property
owners. Although we would probably not drive down the street for all elementary students, we
certainly would for young students alone at the bus stop, and especially for kindergarten students
during noon time routes. This would also provide a chance for the district to provide service for
students with disabilities either temporary or longer.
These two streets are both cul de sacs, and at the present time do not have any circle or other wide
area at the end that would be large enough for a bus to turn around. School buses are generally 40
feet long, and have a turning diameter of about 105 feet. The district does not have buses travel
down cul de sacs unless the cul de sac is longer than the maximum walking distance approved by
the school board or there is a traffic hazard for students at the outlet of the cul de sac. I would ask
that generally new additions be designed with through streets so that the district can provide the
appropriate service for its young and vulnerable clients. I would be glad to comment further or
answer other questions on this matter. You may reach me at 635 -1609.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
an P.
