Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538 Joel R. Hanson
DATE: March 8, 1994
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: Julie Manville, Accounting Clerk
RE: Increase in Budgeted Amount for Computer Hardware
Please note that the final capital improvements budget includes
an increase for computer hardware in the amount of $1,231. This
increase is comprised of the following items:
Actual Budget
Original amount spent $ 8,715 $ 8,900
Additions:
Hard Drive 181
Computer Casing 87
Connector & Print Cabling 185
Network /Controller Cards 186
Modem /Fax Switchbox 170
Windows Software and Mice for six 607
Less: Difference between actual and
budget (see above) (185)
Total Budget $10,131
The additional budget amounts are the result of three situations:
1. Significant difficulties were encountered in upgrading the
old A.T. computer to a faster workstation. These difficul-
ties necessitated the purchase of a new computer casing and
network and controller cards. The old cards would have
worked with the upgraded station; however, without new cards
the dramatically increased speed of the new microprocessor
would have been over - ridden. During the computer conversion
it became apparent that the hard drive in the old A.T. was
not functional and had not been for some time. This
condition is not covered by our computer maintenance
contract. In addition, Banyon Data Systems was authorized
to install new Ethernet connecters on the computers as
several of the old connectors were defective which resulted
in periodic system failures.
2. An automatic modem /fax switchbox has been added to the
budget to allow the modem and fax to share a phone line.
The switchbox will automatically sense which device is
sending or receiving and adjust program parameters accord-
ingly.
PAE'°1
