07 -13 -1994 15:22 612 636 1311
BONESTROO & A55C. P.02
MEMORANDUM
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM Jerry Bourdon
DATE: July 13, 1994
SUBJECT: 1994 Street Improvement Project
Jackson Street / Old County Rd C / Lake Shore
Lake Street
Country Drive
Information for consideration of bid award
INTRODUCTION
This memo provides information for Council's consideration of bid award for this project.
Bids for the 1994 Street Improvement Project were received on Monday, July 11, 1994.
Ashbach Construction is the low bidder of two bids received.
RECOMMENDATION
If Council awards the project, we expect the final costs to be within acceptable range
compared to the preliminary estimates. Work would begin in August with final completion
in October. The low bidder has a good reputation and is capable of properly executing and
completing the work. If awarded we recommend the award be made to Ashbach
Construction and include Alternate 1 (a deduct for recycled aggregate base) and Alternate
2 (installation of a traffic barrier).
Council may wish to consider the advantages of proceeding with the project now or
rebidding the work in the spring. Two issues impact this decision:
1. would bidding in the spring find a better bidding market, and
2. would 1995 spring / summer construction provide enough advantages aver 1994
summer / fall construction. The bids received are within the coat ranges of the
preliminary cost estimates.
Page 7
