I+ 1 2V/4 ceemaehe
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Hanson & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: June 17, 1994
RE: Sheriff's Department Contract Amendment
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
A contract amendment from Ramsey County should be received prior
to Wednesday's meeting dealing with our responsibilities for
insurance coverage. Specifically, we have obtained a quote from
the Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust (MCIT) to provide coverage
for the contracting jurisdictions covered by the Sheriff's
Department at cost savings of approximately $45,000 over policies
presently in force. We have also found the coverage to be
superior to that now in effect including physical damage coverage
for automobiles. Therefore, we would like to have the County
join MCIT on our behalf in order that we can take advantage of
these cost saving opportunities.
One of the conditions of membership in MCIT is that a member
faces potential liability for assessment of costs should premium
dollars be insufficient to meet claims expenses. Likewise, we
also have the potential for dividends should the opposite be
true. (This situation is not dissimilar to that we experienced
with the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust.) Therefore,
the County would like to amend our contract whereby we assume the
responsibility for those costs or the benefits received, if any.
The members present at our contracting jurisdictions' meeting
held on June 16, 1994 indicated their unanimous support for this
option. In order to expedite the processing of this matter, I
would like authority to have this contract amendment approved and
executed by the appropriate parties.
JRH:kpv
Page 63
