515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
April 11, 1994
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
RE: Liquor License Fees
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve MoreIan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Attached are spreadsheet analyses of the costs associated with providing public
services to liquor license holders as well as the taxes and fees they pay. While one
could argue that the comparison between police costs and taxes paid seem
reasonable, it must be noted that many commercial entities generate no police calls,
Therefore, this relationship may not be a good comparison.
To have our licenses generate a comparable margin and given the costs associated
with their issuance as well as the fees of other cities, we feel fees should be adjusted
as follows:
On -Sale Non - Intoxicating
Off -Sale Non - Intoxicating
Off -Sale Intoxicating
Current Proposed
$80.00
$40.00
$100.00
$100.00
$100.00
$150.00
A public hearing would be necessary to increase these fees. (A 30 day notice
provision is required by Statute.) This should be held as soon as possible, in order
for any fee increases to be effective for upcoming liquor license renewals,
PAGE 63
