LITTLE CANADA
14* PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
Telephone: (612) 484 -2177 / Fax: 484 -4538
April 8, 1994
JIM MORELAN, Director
JACK FITZGERALD, Asst. Director
MICHELLE DeBACE, Program Coordinator
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks and Recreation Director
RE: Park Acquisition Needs
At its April 7th meeting, the Park and Recreation Commission did
an initial review of park acquisition needs in the City based on
the City's Park Master Plan. As a result of that review, the
Commission passed a motion requesting that City staff determine
the availability and cost of the following parcels:
Lot on the west side of Edgerton under the powerlines. Lot
is currently for sale and would become part of the trail
easement under the powerlines;
Vacant residential property on the east side of Jackson
Street just south of Jackson Heights;
Schletty wetland property;
Turnquist wetland property;
Dennery property under the powerlines - this would complete
trail connection from LaBore Road to Payne Avenue.
Other properties were also discussed by the Commission for future
acquisition. These include the School District property east of
the old Capital View building; the School District property east
of the Roseville Area Middle School; and the properties necessary
to complete a trail connection under the powerlines from Thunder
Bay to Pioneer Park.
The properties listed in this memo are those identified by
initial review of the Commission. The Commission hopes to do a
more thorough review of acquisition needs over the next few
months. However, the Commission would like staff to begin the
necessary steps toward determining availability of the five
properties listed in the first paragraph of this memo.
Page 68
