MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 16, 2013
the neighborhoods, and the fact that there are no neighborhood parks in
this area, the sidewalks were eliminated within the individual
neighborhoods. The Maplewood Engineer noted that the proposal is for a
28 -foot wide pavement which would accommodate pedestrian traffic.
Blesener asked for an explanation of the B618 curbing. The City Engineer
noted that this is a barrier curbing which is typically installed in developed
neighborhoods where curb cuts are established. This curbing will help
convey water into the storm sewer system, and helps keep snowplows
from damaging adjacent yards.
One property owner asked the width of the existing pavement. The
Maplewood Engineer estimated it at 25 feet. The 28 foot proposal would
add another 1 `h feet of pavement on each side of the street. The property
owner was concerned about the additional pavement given the grades in
the area. The Maplewood Engineer indicated that they were currently
working on profile designs for the street to tie in grades. Another property
owner asked if the street elevation would remain the same. The
Maplewood Engineer indicated that centerline elevations will remain close
to what currently exists. The Maplewood Engineer indicated that when
plans are close to completion, a neighborhood meeting would be held with
property owners to discuss individual impacts. Those plans can then be
adjusted based on property owner input.
The Council asked those property owners present if there was any
objection to the proposed improvement. There was none.
Upon motion by Boss, seconded by McGraw, the public hearing was
closed.
Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2013 -10 -188 — ORDERING IMPROVEMENT NO.
2013 -19, MCMENEMYSTREET (FROM COUNTY ROAD B TO
VIKING DRIVE) BY FULL RECONSTRUCTION INCLUDING
CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER AND AN UPGRADED STORM
SEWER SYSTEM ALONG WITH MAINTENANCE AND
IMPROVEMENT OF EXISTING SANITARY SEWER AND
WATERMAIN SYSTEM
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Keis.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0).
