From: Jim Morelan
Sent: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 2:27 PM
To: *LC_council
Cc: Joel Hanson
Subject: FW:
Mayor and Council:
At the October 23, 2013 Council meeting, t was directed to develop a work scope /plan for the Fire Barns Warming House
project based on budget direction from the Council, and present it back to you for your review and approval.
I am happy to report that at their November 12, 2013 regular meeting, the Little Canada Recreation Association voted to
fund up to an additional $10,000 toward the new warming house building at the Fire Barns Skate Park. As you recall, they
pledged an original amount of $10,000 toward the building at their October meeting. This brings their total pledge of up to
$20,000 for the building, if it is needed over and above the $150,000 budgeted by the City.
The LCRA membership felt very strongly about maintaining the original design of the building, citing their desire to see
both an attractive structure at the site as well as the importance of utilizing building products that would minimize future
maintenance costs by the City.
The "up to" $20,000 pledge from the LCRA allows for the building to be constructed as originally designed.
The architect's original June 20, 2013 estimate of $172,750 has been reduced to $163,550 with the anticipated sales tax
savings of $4,000 and the $5,200 change of the door locking system.
An estimated yearly inflation of 4% ($6,542) brings the architect's 2014 estimate back up to $170,092.
With the pledge of these additional monies from the LCRA, I would like to notify the architect to proceed as soon as
practical with the project as originally designed.
Please let me know how to proceed.
I assume the architect would like to begin soliciting bids on the project as soon as possible.
Thank You.
Parks and Recreation Director
City of Little Canada
(651) 766-4045 - office
(651) 766 -4048 - fax
2
1
