TEL
ARCH ITEC°TTS
CITY OF MAPLEWOOD
PUBLIC WORKS EXPANSION
Contact: Chuck Ahl
Public Works Director
City of Maplewood
1902 County Road B East,
Maplewood, MN 55109
p. 651.770.4500
e. chuck.ahlc'cl.maplewood.mn.us
Expansion & renovation of the
existing facility
• 24,300 square feet new
(4,000 sq. ft. two -story office
addition)
• 26,000 existing renovated
• Completion in 2006
• Construction cost $2,000,000
TEAM MEMBERS WHO WORKED ON
THIS PROJECT WHO ARE ALSO
ASSIGNED TO YOUR PROJECT:
Jeff Oertel, Project Manager
Thomas Stromsodt, Architect
Brenda Dever, Interior Designer
Dan Paulson, Electrical Engineer
Oertel Architects was faced with the task of updating and expanding the original
facility which was constructed in 1976. The site is sloped which lent itself well to a
two story addition. The two story office portion of the expansion is around 4,000
square feet. The second level is available for use by other city departments. A large
20,200 square foot vehicle storage area was added as well as a new wash bay for city
vehicles.
The exterior of the facility is comprised of precast concrete panels, ribbed aluminum
metal panels and pre - finished aluminum storefront glass.
A major driving force of the design was the need for natural light. The vehicle
storage area has translucent panels around the entire upper portion of the building,
which helps cut down on the dependence of artificial lighting.
Existing renovated building
shown in white.
The shaded areas represent
the areas that were expanded.
68
40
